There’s just something about a Sunday lunch that feels like a real treat. In the lovely little village of Greencastle, Co. Donegal, where the sea meets the sky, that tradition has found a great new home. If you’re on the hunt for the ultimate Indian buffet experience – and we’re not just talking about any old buffet, we’re talking about the real deal – then the Sultan Castle Indian Restaurant in Greencastle is the place to be. It’s a feast that gets the perfect balance of authentic, old-school Indian food with all the freshness and local spirit of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.
Whether you are a local resident or just passing through the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula, finding a top-notch Indian buffet menu to enjoy on the weekend is pretty much a must. At Sultan Castle, we’ve really made an effort to create an experience that delivers on depth of flavour, loads of variety, and the warm, friendly vibe that India is all about.
Why an Indian Sunday Buffet Is the Perfect Way to Spend a Sunday
Greencastle has got the stunning views and the maritime history, of course, but its food scene is just as tasty. And let’s be honest, a good weekend Indian buffet is just the ticket for families and friends who want to hang out without the hassle of trying to pick just one thing to eat.
The Fun of Trying New Things
The great thing about Indian food is just how diverse and wild it all is – from the creamy, rich textures of the curries from up north to the scorching hot spices of the south, a buffet lets you go on a culinary journey of discovery. You can try all sorts of new things and stumble upon a new favourite curry or snack that you wouldn’t have ordered off the menu otherwise.
Great Value for Families, Really
Now, let’s face it, eating out in Ireland can sometimes be a bit pricey, especially if you’re a big group. So here’s the thing about our Sunday buffet: it’s designed to be super affordable. We’ve priced it at just €15.99, which is a pretty good deal if we do say so ourselves – it’s one of the best-value dining deals in the area, and that’s without sacrificing any of the quality.
Exploring Our Authentic Indian Buffet Menu – A True Taste of India
What makes a restaurant truly stand out is the delicate balance of its menu. And we take that very seriously – our Indian buffet menu has been carefully crafted to bring a perfect mix of fan favourites and genuine regional specialities straight to your plate. When we say every dish is prepared the traditional way, we mean it – our spices are toasted & ground to perfection by people who’ve been doing it just that way for generations.
Signature Starters to Get You Going
Every great meal starts with a bit of a kick – a good crunch to get the taste buds going. You can expect our starters to be classics – like:
- Onion Bhajis – Crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside & gloriously spiced.
- Vegetable Pakoras – Whatever fabulous seasonal veggies we have on hand, dipped in a light, airy gram flour batter.
- Chicken Tikka – A classic, with tender morsels of poultry marinated in plain old yoghurt and some of India’s most traditional tandoori spices.
The Heart of a Great Meal – Our Mains
This is where our buffet really comes alive. We like to keep things fresh, so there’s always something new to try. One visit might bring a rich, velvety butter chicken alongside a robust lamb. Rogan Josh – you never know what’s going to pop up! Every dish takes its sweet time simmering away, so the flavours have a chance to really develop & you get that home-cooked feel that’s often missing from big commercial restaurants.
A Taste of India – Our Indian Vegetarian Buffet Experience
We figure it’s high time vegetarianism got the respect it deserves. In India, cooking up a storm with veggies is a true art form. We’re bringing that to Greencastle with our vegetarian Indian buffet – a spread that’s just as satisfying as anything with meat.
A Real Vegetarian Treat
Those looking for some top-notch meat-free grub can expect to find:
- Tarka Dal: We can’t resist a good lentil curry, especially when it’s got garlic, cumin and ghee thrown in.
- Saag Paneer: Yes, spinach with Indian cottage cheese – the perfect match made in heaven.
- Chana Masala – Not just a name, this is the stuff of legends – chickpeas in a tomato & onion gravy that’ll leave you wanting more.
- Aloo Gobi: A classic dish that still blows our minds – potatoes and cauliflower in all their turmeric glory.
By using only the freshest ingredients and authentic spices, we’re confident our Indian vegetarian buffet is the place to be for anyone looking for a healthy or meat-free meal in Donegal.

The Key to Our Seriously Good Spices
What’s behind the fantastic flavours of our Indian food buffet? Well, it’s pretty simple really – a real commitment to authenticity. We don’t believe in mass-producing a curry paste and slapping it on every dish. No, each one on our Indian buffet menu has its own unique spice blend.
- Good Quality Produce: Whenever possible we’ll source some lovely fresh produce from around here; couple that with the odd specialist spice from elsewhere, and you get the perfect fusion of quality.
- Old School Methods: Our chefs still use traditional clay ovens – tandoors – to give our bread and meats that proper old-world smoky taste that you just can’t get with a normal oven.
- Spice it Up for Yourself: We know that everyone has their own spice tolerance, and so our buffet is designed to cater to all comers – from the very mild and creamy to the downright fiery.

Kids just love our mild Indian dishes like Korma or Tikka – they’re basically the kid-friendly equivalent of a colouring book – a bunch of yummy but gentle options to print on the plate. Plus the buffet is super convenient; let the little ones try little bits of everything without committing to a whole plate of something new.
Do you have gluten-free options available?
Loads of our curries and lentil dishes are naturally gluten-free, which is a plus for those with dietary restrictions. Just give the staff a shout when you arrive, and they’ll be happy to walk you through the Indian buffet menu and point out the good stuff.
